Fatal collision on Hwy 16

A 75-year-old U.S. man is dead following a collision on Hwy 16 between Terrace and Prince Rupert earlier this week.

On Tuesday Nov. 27, around 12:40 p.m., Terrace RCMP received a report of a single-vehicle collision near the 90 km marker of Hwy 16, west of Terrace.

Police arrived on scene shortly after Terrace Fire, which successfully extricated the driver from the vehicle. The man succumbed to his injuries while en route to the hospital by ambulance. The only other occupant was an uninjured dog.

According to reports, the vehicle was travelling eastbound when it passed another vehicle, drove into the ditch and hit the rockface near Exchamsiks River Bridge.

Traffic was closed in both directions on the highway while police investigated.

Driving conditions were reported to be foggy and wet at the time.
